Something is built, photographed, and taken apart. What remains is the photograph — and a method. Structural Accidents departs from Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities, not as illustration but as combinatorial logic: the same pool of salvaged materials returns again and again, dismantled and rebuilt into forms that exist only for the moment of their capture.
The materials come largely from packaging — moulded foam, polystyrene, tape — made to protect goods in transit and thrown away after one use.
The distance between the world and the image is widened on purpose: sketch to object, object to negative, negative to inter-negative, inter-negative to a print on fibre-based paper. Each step loses something, until the final photograph barely resembles what it came from.
